Q: is there a grace period for insurance in california on a new vehicle?
How long can you go without insurance after purchase of a new vehicle?
I know it should be done immediately but I have other things going on right now and dont have time to get quotes currently.
If there is no grace period I just wont drive until I get insurance.
A: If you replaced an old insured car with a new one, there is a grace period (usually up to 30 days) where the old insurance will cover the new car. If you didn't have a policy before, you must insure immediately
Q: I crashed my vehicle and the auto insurance company will buy it from me. Next car = New Insurance company?
I crashed my vehicle and the auto insurance appraiser said AllState will purchase the vehicle from me because the cost to fix it will be more than what the car is worth.
When I buy my next car, should I go with a different auto insurance company because my premium would go up if I stayed with AllState for the new vehicle?
A: Your premium will go up, regardless.
Unless you decide to make a fraudulent report, and NOT tell your new insurance about the accident.
Which they will be able to find out anyway.
Q: Is gap cover insurance on a vehicle transferable to the new owner?
I am buying a car from a private person, and they have 3 years gap insurance left on the car. Can this be transferred into my name?
A: No, it would not transfer, but you may not need it. Gap coverage is coverage in case you incur a total loss (theft, totalled in an accident, etc.) and you owe more money on the car than the car is actually worth at the time of the loss. The gap coverage will help (sometimes partially, sometimes totally) cover that 'gap'. For example, if you owe $10,000 on a vehicle when you have a total loss, but the vehicle is worth $15.000, you wouldn't need the gap coverage, since you would stand to receive $5,000 after the loan is paid off. However, if this car is only worth $7,000 at the time of loss, but you owe $10,000, you are still responsible for the remaining $3,000. Here's where gap coverage would kick in.
If you do need the coverage, speak to your insurance agent, adding it onto an exisiting policy tends to be the least expensive way to secure this coverage.
Q: Can one's insurance payments go down if they get a new vehicle?
If I were to sell my current vehicle and get a used car, might my insurance payments change?
A: Ask your insurance agent what cars are the least expensive to insure. They normally have a list available. The cost is dependent on (among other things) the profile of the typical driver of that model, cost to repair, the insurer's history.
You could land up paying more if you bought a car that the insurance company sees as a bigger risk, which is what all your costs are based on for your policy.
Also, your age is a factor, younger drivers are more expensive to insure than over 30 drivers.
Q: Can I use my insurance check towards the purchase of a new vehicle?
I recently hit a raccoon with my car and turned it in to my insurance. Can I use the check for repairs towards the purchase of a different vehicle and get rid of my car? It is getting old and starting to have problems.
A: If the check is payable to you only, then you can use it for whatever you want.

Q: Is it possible to cancel the gap insurance portion of a new vehicle contract?
I recently purchased (financed) an '08 Ford Focus, from a local dealership. The sale went fine; However, upon review of the final 'Personal Loan Agreement', the GAP insurance was $400 more ($650 total) than the finance person said it was going to be. Is there any way I can cancel this portion of the sales contract?
A: GAP cost is based on how long your loan is. $650 is quite normal. You could cancel the GAP, but that money would go toward the bank that has a loan out on it. I would keep it. GAP is very useful when financing, especially when financing new vehicles.
Q: Should I receive a refund check from GAP insurance since we just traded in and got a new vehicle?
The Financial consultant told us that we needed to contact the previous dealer where we bought the older vechicle and that we traded in the vehicle and bought a newer vehicle. We bought the older one in New Mexico and then moved to Texas where we just bought a new tahoe.
A: You shouldnt get a check from GAP. That is only if you wreck the car when it is still being paid for, that way they pay the car off with the GAP insurance. I think thats how it works.
Good Luck
Q: In the state of New jersey does the police have a computer that verifies your insurance policy on your vehicle
I was stopped recently and I Have valid insuraNCE (out of state FL) THE COP went to his car and said the computer showed my insurance was expired. I think he just wanted to give me a ticket.
A: Did you have your current insurance card with you? All states have the ability to check for valid car insurance.
Q: If you were given a vehicle as a gift. How can you get a new title with out auto insurance?
My friend gave me a car as a gift, and I don't have the money to insure it right now. My friend already sign the car over to me, how can i get a new title in my name with out the auto insurance?
A: You can get a new title in your name without insurance. You will need to have insurance when you register the vehicle. Just owning the vehicle & leaving it parked (off the road if you do not have plates or insurance) does not mean you have to have insurance on it. DO NOT drive it until you have plates and insurance on it.
Q: in the state of new jersey do i need insurance to register a vehicle?
A: From the state of New Jersey:
"Any vehicle registered in New Jersey requires three types of mandatory insurance:
A - Liability insurance, which pays others for the damages that you cause if you are responsible for an accident. It does not cover any medical expenses.
B - Personal Injury Protection (PIP), which pays for medical expenses if you or other persons covered by your policy are injured in an automobile accident. Often referred to as "no fault" coverage, it pays your medical expenses whether you were or were not at fault.
C - Uninsured motorist coverage, which protects you if you are in an accident with someone who does not have the minimum level of insurance required by state law."
Q: If I own a own a vehicle with under 5000 miles, is it still considered a "new" car for insurance purposes?
The reason why I am asking, is that a lady hit my 2006 GMC envoy and did $15,096.00 of damage and I plan to file a diminished value claim. I am trying to find the value of the vehicle and the Kelly Blue Book value for this vehicle new (not the MSRP) is $34,500.00. I want all if not most of the damage paid to me because I will never be able to sell this truck for anything near that. Thanks!
Wow, Cowboy, what is the point of acting like an ass? Because you are a claims adjuster and know a little about the field? Obviously, you are a smart man...I only wish I could be half as intelligent as you...jackass
A: I believe time since original sale also plays a factor.
Q: Auto Insurance when buying New Vehicle?
What is procedure on obtaining Auto Insurance when you buy a new vehicle and have no present insurance account setup?
Does dealer offer temporary insurance until you can get quotes from a few companies?
A: If you know the vehicle you are going to be purchasing, go get some quotes online, or if you know who you will be insuring with - go purchase your insurance first. The car dealer WILL NOT release the vehicle to you until they have solid proof of insurance in their hands.
I bought a new car last January - after turning in a company car, so thus I had no personal auto insurance first. I negotiated my price with the dealer, and set up a date to pick up my car. The morning before, I met with my insurance agent, paid for my premium and provided them the year, make, model of the vehicle (if possible, get them the VIN too), and I received an insurance card. Now if you don't know what type of vehicle you are going to purchase - pick a carrier/agent - have their number with you when you go to the dealer. Make sure they will be open to write you a policy when you purchase your vehicle, and while the dealer is getting their paperwork together, you call the insurance company and purchase your policy - it doesn't increase the time you'll spend at the dealer by too much longer.
Good luck.
Q: Does Comprehensive vehicle insurance cover an accident due to hydroplaning (wet roads)?
I was just in a wreck where I was on the interstate in a bad rain storm and suddenly hydroplaned into a guard rail. I only have comprehensive insurance. I do not have collision. Since the accident is weather related will it cover it?
A: Your insurance carrier will likely claim that the loss was caused by a collision with a guardrail and not from weather related causes.
Q: If i got new wheels for my vehicle would i need to report it to insurance company or dmv?
why or why not?
(the wheels are a diffrent type and style than what was originally on it from the factory)
A: Generally no. Unless they are not street certified you do not have to report them to the dmv. If they are rather expensive, then you should mention it to your insurance company and possibly expect a premium increase, especially if your are in a medium to high theft area. Failure to do so may result in the insurance company deny coverage or only pay for the original equipment replacement.
