Q: Motorcycle insurance?
I am looking to get a motorcycle in the future and I know it takes time and money, but most people do not ride in the winter (NJ), so my question is, can I cancel my motorcycle insurance during winter months, so I am not paying all year round? Also, are there any reprocussions to doing this? Thanks.

A: Depending on what kind of bike you have, you might want to keep insurance even when you are not riding. If you have a nicer bike, I would suggest full coverage. In the event that somebody steals your bike, you are totally covered. Motorcycle thefts happen a lot b/c its so easy to steal one. I had two bikes and both got stolen from my apt complex. Good thing I was covered with Progressive insurance. They covered the costs of the bikes, so I didn't lose any money

Q: Is Motorcycle insurance the same price as car insurance or is it cheaper?
I had a coupld of friends that have motorcycles and some that have cars. They don't pay for their own insurance but i wanted to know if by any chance if motorcycle insurance is cheaper then auto insurance. I know auto insurance these days are sky high. But since a motorcycle is a lot smaller, shouldn't insurance for it be cheaper for it?

A: Motorcycle insurance is CHEAPER than cars. I pay around $125 for a year....FULL COVERAGE, etc. through Progressive for my H-D. Check around and compare.

Q: Does motorcycle insurance cheaper the older the bike compared to a new one?
I 24 yrs old and i am looking to buy my first bike. Insurance is very pricey for a young buck. If i was to buy an older model motorcycle would insurance be cheaper.

A: I guess that would depend upon what company you go with. I know I have our race bikes insured and my oldest son who doesn't race as much anymore has a 2 year old crf250r. The insurance is less on his bike than his brothers new race bikes with all the added extras as we usually have to state how much the bikes would be worth for replacement cost.

Q: How much would I pay for motorcycle insurance in Hawaii?
How much would it cost to insure a 500cc or less motorcycle in Hawaii for a full-time female college student with a 3.0 or better GPA who is 19 years of age and single and has one speeding ticket on her record? I would just like a ballpark range to work with so I can decide whether or not I want to buy a motorcycle for going to college and work while I'm here in Hawaii. I passed a motorcycle safety course and have my M1 license. I want to know if I could afford the insurance.

A: Prices will vary a lot depending on what bike you get and what type of coverage you select. Definitely get online quotes - I've posted links to a company that gives instant online quotes - but many of the traditional auto insurance companies also offer motorcycle coverage - give them a call. In my case my motorcycle insurance was considerably cheaper than my auto insurance (I just have liability coverage on both my bike and my car).

Q: Where can I find some cheap motorcycle insurance?
I am trying to find some cheap motorcycle insurance. Everywhere I have gotten quotes from so far have all been over $400 a month. Where can I find some cheap motorcycle insurance in Florida?

A: HOLY COW! We only pay about $150 a year here in Wisconsin. Since it's motorcycle season year 'round down there, that's probably why it's more expensive. I don't know if my company writes policies down there, but you could look them up on the web...Hastings Mutual Insurance Company in Michigan. Maybe Geico could help too, but I've never checked for motorcycles. They were higher on car insurance for us. Also, the kind of ride you have might make a difference too, such as a crotch rocket over a Gold Wing. Anyway, hope you find something. Ride to live, live to ride. <*)))><

Q: What do you know about motorcycle insurance?
I spoke with my auto insurance agent this morning (at American Family). She said the following: 1. Full coverage insurance on an everyday 2004 (500cc) Honda Motorcycle would run me about $130/year. 2. I can't get any kind of coverage on a sport bike until I've had my motorcycle license for 10 years; and even if I did, it would cost me $1,000/year. Please tell me everything you know about motorcycle insurance. Do I even need it? I want to buy a used sport bike (600cc or less) and spend around $3k for it. If something happens, it's not like I'm wrecking a $20k new car or even my primary transportation - and the cost to fix it wouldn't be that bad. Even if it was, at $1,000/year for insurance, I might as well just take my chances, right? I'm a 22 year old male. I will be taking the motorcycle safety course in late spring or early summer this year. I will then get my motorcycle license. My issue is that I CANNOT GET insurance for a sport bike, even if I was willing to pay $1,000. They said I need to have a license for 10 years and I'm not willing to wait around for a decade. Who will give me coverage on a sport bike for cheap being an inexperienced rider?

A: I rode for 12 years and always found Dairyland to provide great coverage at very low costs. Give them a look, it may be worth your while.

Q: Can you get car insurance and motorcycle insurance on the same policy?
I have insurance on my car but i havent had insurance on my bike for about a year. i was going to get with my car because i needed to renew my tags but they told me they dont cover motorcycle. i was wondering if there is a company that covers both? I asked the companie that insures my car and they said they didnt know. maybe i will check out geico.

A: I have AAA insurance, the truck, the mustang ,the R.V.and the3 bikes are all insured as a package.

Q: What will my motorcycle insurance be like?
Im about to get a motorcycle. I was wondering what a good insurance company would be to go with, and how much it would run me a month. Im a 20 year old student in Florida. thanks for any info.

A: Insurance is very individual because it's based on your drivers record, sex, age, and a number of other variables such as location, credit rating and type of vehicle being insured. The easiest way to find the cheapest auto insurance in the USA is to fill one form at http://4ym8.com/CompareInsurance.html This will compare all insurance companies in the 50 states to find which companies offer the best prices according to where you live and who you are so you are bound to find something that suits you, if it works out remember my points please :)

Q: How much does motorcycle insurance cost in MA?
How much should I expect to pay for motorcycle insurance on a cheap bike in MA? (I'm in cambridge.) I know it depends on a variety of factors, and I could call an agent and get a quote, but I'm just looking for a rough estimate.

A: Check Progressive or Geico Ins companies. They will give you a quote on-line.

Q: Do you need Motorcycle insurance to drive on a permit?
Do you have to have Motorcycle insurance to drive on a permit? Cause im gonna go buy my bike next week and do I have to have insurance to drive it from the lot to my house?

A: You need to have insurance before you take possession of a motor vehicle, let alone drive it on any kind of permit or license. This is because bad stuff can happen at any time. Most bad stuff happens in an accident, but it can get stolen, damaged, cause damage. If you own it, you are responsible, unless you got insurance first. If police stop you for any random reason, they will probably need to see your * license is correct for type of vehicle you driving (you do know that a different license needed for motorcyce, than for car?) * ownership ... you have right to be driving this vehicle * licence plates properly registered to ownership * wearing suitable safety gear like helmet * proof of insurance If any of this evidence is missing, the presumption is that you are driving illegally.

Q: Can you cancel motorcycle insurance after 6 months while still paying lease?
When you get a motorcycle financed and the bank requires the owner to get full insurance coverage on your bike. Lets say if I were to cancel my insurance after couple of months because of some reason and not have any policy for next year. Will the bank find out and penalize me until I get one? Or can I get away with that? Thanks.........

A: The bike has to be insured. You would be crazy NOT to have insurance on a vehicle of any kind that you have financed. If it is stolen or damaged while not insured you still are responsible for the loan!!!!!

Q: How much do you pay for motorcycle insurance?
I would like to know how much you pay for motorcycle insurance. If you could, in your answer, please state how much you pay, how old you are, and what size you bike is. Also say if it is a crotch rocket a cruiser....etc. I am seventeen and wondering what a roundabout insurance quote would be for me.

A: $75 a year liability cause it is a 10 years old motorcycle with Progressive

Q: How much would buying a motorcycle, insurance, and gear cost?
I appreciate any answers. Here are some figures I have seen: Insurance -$90 - $200 a year Motorcycle gear - New helmet and gear = +/- $800 Motorcycle - $500- $20,000 or more

A: The biggest variable will be your insurance, and $90 per year is EXTREMELY low, even for limited liability ONLY. If you are over 25, good driving record, married, with an MSF course under your belt and NOT starting on a 1000cc superbike, you can expect under $50/month for full coverage (required if financing through a bank). If you're 18, on a used Gixxer 600, with a ticket or two, expect $400 or so just for liability! As for gear, expect to pay AT LEAST $500, but a mroe realistic expectation is to budget another $1000 for good gear, leather if possible, and the RIGHT helmet that fits properly. Some people are fine with a $200 HJC helmet, others can't live without a $500 Shoei. If you have a $50 head, then by all means buy a $50 helmet. The bike itself doesn't have a straightforward answer. Your first bike should be a smaller USED one, so you can learn and drop it a few times without getting in over your head. Maybe $5000 tops. Then after you have a couple years' experience, you can shop for your Wonder Bike. So do you want a small sportbike under $10,000 or an exotic $23,000 MV Agusta F4? Maybe a two wheeled motor home like a Gold Wing? The future of your motorcycling life is up to you, but it all hinges on whether you start out right and live to see it.

Q: Do you have to carry insurance on a motorcycle if you are financing it?
I know in WA state where i live you aren't required to carry motorcycle insurance, but i am curious if you need to have insurance if you are financing a bike?

A: Full coverage untill the bike is paid-off.

Q: Is it the law to have motorcycle insurance in colorado?
I want to buy a harley davidson sportster and want to know if it would be unlawful to not have motorcycle insurance in colorado.

A: Even if the law does not require it, BUY IT ANYWAY FULL COVERAGE WITH UNDERINSURED/UNINSURED MOTORIST PROTECTION. Why? I had my first wreck ever in 37 years last June and they had only $25,000.00 in insurance which is $5,000.00 more than the minimum but my attorny is still fighting to cover all my bills, just 24 hours in the hospital cost $28,000.00 and they paid $8,000.00 on my Yamaha Silverado whjich I used to buy a Harley Sportster 883.as a replacement bike. My helmet is the only thing that saved my life as i flew over the car and landed face first on the hot Texas pavement. Especially on a Harley buy insurance. It does not cost that much.
