Q: How much do auto insurance agents make there first year?
What's the average for starting license auto insurance agents? Do they only make commision or hourly too? Are the leads provided. Is it a hard industry to get into?
A: Breaking into insurance sales is very tough. Many agents have parents who own agencies, and learn the business that way. Many more work for an insurance company in marketing, etc. This allows them to learn the business, and then they can buy out an agency. There are a few companies that are willing to hire and train you. But those opportunities are few.
The best way for a person without connections or years of experience to break into the field is to get a customer service rep (CSR) position at an existing agency. The pay isn't great, but the knowledge you gain will help you work your way into an agent position.
Agents work for commissions only. This is why there is a high failure rate. It take awhile for an agent to build up renewal commissions to be able to earn enough money to live on. As for leads, some companies are better than others. But in the end, if someone has a solid lead, they aren't going to give it to you, they will take it themselves.
Q: Is there a course for auto insurance agents?
I want to get in the field of auto insurance agent. I have not been able to locate a school or site that can give me information. I'ved tried asking auto insurance companies but they only hire agents with licenses.
A: Generally, there are two licenses required to sell insurance.
First of all, the state certfies, by a written test, that you can be an agent. The insurance department also certifies the educational offerings, either approving them -or not. Accordingly, they'll have a list of available courses which are frequently taught in the evening at a community college. Once you complete the course, you report to a place to take the state test. In general, there are 4 types of licenses: Property, Casualty, Life and Health. If you want to sell personal auto insurance, you would take the property and casualty test.
That's level one - YOU.
Your license, however, doesn't necessarily mean you can actually sell insurance. The insurance company or agency for whom you wish to sell must, itself, also be licensed. It is safe to say that if they have an office and are doing business, they are licensed.
From time-to-time, all the companies that write insurance directly (through their own agents, not through independent agencies. Examples: State Farm, Allstate) look for new agents. If they like you at interveiew, they'll either send you to a local licensing course, or to their own insurance schools. There are, however, some insurance jobs that don't require a special license, such as paying claims. Often, working in the claims department is a way to get your foot in the door. Once you're in, then you can sign up for courses and get your certification.
Few, if any agents, sell auto insurance alone. Usually, they sell both auto and homeowners coverage, known as "personal lines" of insurance. This includes some specialty lines sucbh as RV coverage and boats. And often, there is a requirment to offer life insurance, because that's where the "big" money is.
You may find a good opportunity working for an "independent" agent, a shop that sells the products for a few or very many insurance companies. MetLife, the Hartford and Fireman's Fund are examples -but there are hundreds of others.
Here are the three things that will make you an attractive job candidate:
1. You dress well and are well groomed. Lose the pierced tongue.
2. You speak and write well, and in complete sentences. Forget "RU," and such short-cuts. The word "I," referring to yourself, is always capitalized. Your spelling is good.
3. You're good with math, some formulas and figuring percentages. You know how to calculate the area of a room or a building, for example. We're talking about the 4 functions here (add, subtract, multiply, divide). Algebra is not necessary.
In general, you have a professional manner about you. The business is very competitive, so appearance really does count.
I hope this helps.
Q: How much do auto insurance agents get paid?
My husband & I own a small, well established independent insurance agent in Raleigh, NC. We would like to hire a licensed CSR/agent to work in our business, but have no idea what the going pay rate is in our area. Any ideas or insight would be much appreciated!!

Q: Do all Auto Insurance agents/brokers charge broker's fee? And how much is it?
Do all Auto Insurance agents/brokers charge broker's fee? And how much is it?
A: I didn't know anybody charged broker fees until I read this. I've had three different auto/homeowner's insurance brokers in the past 10 years and none of them has ever charged me a fee.
Q: are all allstate auto insurance agents the same?
i've had allstate auto insurance for the 8 years with the same agent... with an unemblemished record and no new cars, why does my premium keep going up?
if i go to a different allstate agent, will that make any difference whatsoever?
A: Agents do not set the rates, the company does. If you go to a different Allstate agent, he will be using the same rate book. To deal with him, you will have to sign a broker letter of intent so he can take over your account with permission from Allstate, but, unless his office is closer to you, your existing agent gives you poor service, or you know him and want to deal with him, changing may not be worth it. When you get your renewal, check with a broker who deals with some other companies. Either he will find you a better rate, or you will find you are not so bad off after all, and the quotes are at no charge.
Q: For the auto insurance agents, does it make sense to fight a $170 ticket?
Got a $170 ticket for a minor non-speeding violation. It's going to cost me 3 demerit points. My main choice is to pay over $300 to have a professional negotiate the ticket on my behalf and remove the demerit point cost. Am I really going to pay an additional $130 in additional insurance premium for a single 3 demerit point violation?
A: It really depends on other factors. If this is your first violation/accident in 3yrs or longer than it probably will not effect your premium very much.
However if you have had other violations or accidents in the last 3yrs, than you can expect an increase somewhere in 15% range. I don't know what 15% of your six month premium is, but you can do the math and deceide if it's worth while to fight it.
Q: What to do when your Auto Insurance Agent calls you up and cries on the phone and threatens you, Do you change
Agents or the Insurance Co?
I filled out a questionare rating how pleased I was with the service from my Insurance Agent, I gave him low marks cause he told me he would raise my auto insurance if I didn't buy homeowners and life insurance from him.
So I wrote that down on the questionare and the Corporate seen that and he almost lost his job
next he calls me up, and cries like a baby and told me if he loses his business or his job I am the one to blame
What would you do?
A: Well, that's not the way I run my insurance agency. It's pretty dumb on his part, but I think it actually helps you.
Here's what probably happened. He probably quoted you a low price, including multi-line discounts for home and life insurance. Then, the underwriters figured out that he didn't actual write homeowners and life insurance on you, and the underwriters are going to raise your rates accordingly. So, he was probably telling you the truth, just not the whole truth.
The good news is, now you have this insurance agent where you want him. You have his attention. You'd be crazy to move your insurance now. Every time you call him, he has to jump through hoops, or he thinks you're going to report him. Leave your insurance there.
Now, this is going to sound like and insurance salesman. It wouldn't hurt you to have your home and your life insurance at the same company. In fact, it's smarter. I would have him quote both of them. If the rates sound reasonable, then do it. It's a lot better having an agent thats scared of you than having some 800-LIZARD line to call when you have a problem.
Q: How to be auto insurance agent that sells more than 1 brand of auto insurance product?
I am interested in becoming an auto insurance agent. I want to do this part time, but I don't know how to get started? I can go to school to get the degree to sell insurance, but how do you get the connections to sell the various types of insurance ?
A: First, get training and get Licensed to sell insurance. There is a license exam you must pass in order to become a "Licensed Producer of Insurance".
Second, well...you can either:
1) Apply for a job at an Insurance Agency. Either as a Producer (not likely with little experience), or as a CSR or office assistant.
2) Start your own Insurance Agency, which is a lot of work and money.
Being an Insurance Agent is not the easiest job, and there is a lot of liability involved. So I would suggest working for an Insurance Agency, learn the ins and outs...and decide where to go to from there.
If you decide to just sell it for yourself (out of your home or whatnot), you would still be basically starting your own business. Being an Independant Agent is not as easy as going to www.gieco.com for someone, and getting a commission.

Q: auto insurance agents in california please. Re: ticket and trial by declaration lost case?
Hello, I received a ticket for speeding, i fought it via trial by declaration, lost the case. I went to the court today to see if i could still take traffic school. The clerk told me that i have to schedule a court date two months from today to ask the judge in person. from now until two months does my insurance go up since i lost the case? what if i AM allowed to take traffic school? will this just take the point of my record or will it also prevent my insurance from going up? Please give me all the info you might have. Thanks! Also, what if my insurance starts going up starting next month, if i am allowed traffic school, will this make my insurance go back down?
by the way, i am in southern california, and my insurance is Safeco. i have not had any previous accidents in the last 3 years or gone to traffic school in about 4 years
A: first of all, no insurance company can increase your rate f/ a violation until the renewal of your policy, when they run your mvr. and actually, they typically run it a couple months earlier so if the violation was in the time between your renewal and when they ran the report, your clear f/ another 6-12 months.
however, points on your license and points on your insurance are 2 different things. even if u are able to go to traffic school to have the points removed from your license, you will still be charged for a violation on your insurance. traffic school does not make the violation go away.
Q: Want to be an auto insurance agent?
I am from WA state and I want to get auto insurance agent license because I want to work on a insurance related school project.
I am ready to appear for the exam but WA state requires affiliation or sponsorship from an Insurance Agency. Considering I am not planning to sell auto insurance how can I approach an auto insurance agency and request them to vouch for me so that I can get agent license?
Ok let me explain a bit more in detail. The school insurance project might turn into a commercial one and having a license is required in that case. I need to be an agent so that I can advise people about auto insurance.
I looked at the WA website it says if you want to be an agent (Advise people on auto insurance) you need a license
http://www.insurance.wa.gov/industry/licensing/application-procedures.asp
To get an license you need affiliation/appointment
A: If you don't plan on selling insurance, you don't need a license. Period.
I just checked the WA state website. You need an APPOINTMENT in order to sell insurance, WITH your license. Apparently you don't need the appointment to GET the license, but without an appointment, the license by itself isn't going to do you any good.
SO. You can take the education courses you need to take, pay your testing fee, take the test, pass it, pay the licensing fee . . . and do exactly WHAT with the license? Nothing, because you can't sell insurance without an appointment, and you can't ADVISE without a broker's license.
An AGENCY can't sponsor you. A COMPANY has to sponsor you. HUGE difference. NO ONE is going to sponsor you, unless you're going to work for them.
Q: Compare Auto Insurance Quotes With Local Agents?
I know there are many different sites where I can compare auto insurance quotes. I am wondering if there are any sites that have local agents available on them? My local agent just retired and I am looking around for new coverage, I just don't want to call everyone in the phone book you know.
A: Get a 1 minute car insurance quote from a top referred good local company.
A good car insurance company needs to be local, so if you ever have any problems you can stop by the office immediately. Plus dealing with someone face to face is always better business. How can a customer service rep that is hundreds of miles away know exactly what you are needing where you are?
You need to be able to communicate with your insurance agent, build a relationship with them, because you plan on staying with them for a long time. Remember their service that you are paying for is to PROTECT YOU & YOUR FAMILY.
In most cases "the average person" spends hours looking for an insurance company, you want to make sure you are choosing the best options for you and your family. So you can't blame "the average person" for making this mistake, I call it a mistake because there are better options, than spending hours on something that can be done in minutes.
I have found a site http://www.CarInsuranceQuotesCheap.com that gives you top referred local insurance providers, and their quotes in 1 minute. All you have to do is enter in your state, then your zip code and follow the instructions. It's that simple, nothing else to it.
Then you decide from those insurance companies, who is going to protect you and your family and get your business. Now deciding what insurance company to choose from is easy, all of the top referred local companies are right in front of you.
I would then contact the referred insurance agents by phone, about the possible insurance policy just quoted. Make sure you ask about any possible discounts that might apply to you, some insurance companies give discounts for parking your car in the garage. You will never know unless you ask so ask, because a lot of little money saved can add up.
Make sure you check out http://www.CarInsuranceQuotesCheap.com you will be alright.
What is the worst that can happen, you find a good car insurance company, with a good rate, and a local agent in as little as 1 minute.
Be safe and take care.
Q: how and when does a bc auto insurance agent gets paid ?
my question is when you get your vehicle insurance renewed for a year ( in bc canada ) by an auto insurance agent representative, how and when and how much does this agent rep gets paid ? is it right after the renewal ? what happens if i cancel the auto insurance after 2 months ?
A: For auto insurance the quickest method to get a cheap quote is do a car policy comparison. Be sure to choose the same coverage levels, you can get an quick quote to compare against others. Use the same zip code, car make/model, mileage and driving history to make sure you get accurate comparison. To get easy auto insurance quotes, go to http://www.easyautoinsuranceguide.com and you can compare all the major auto insurance companies.
Q: How much are other companies paying their agents on auto insurance sales?
I get 25% of the policy is that standard accross other companies i'm with AIG
A: Our companies pay 10-15% for most auto policies, some companies pay 20% but that is rare. If there is a youthful on the policy, they don't pay the 20%.
25% commission is excellent.
Q: Question for Auto Insurance agents?
Do you have to have some kind of cirtification to legally sell an auto Insurance Policy to a customer? Can a Receptionist legally sell a policy?
A: In order to sell a policy, you have to be a licensed agent. To get a license, you take a class thats about 30-40 hours over the course of a week, then you are eligible to take the test. The class will cost around $200, and the test is around $85 to take, this would more than likely be paid by your employer or the agent. Once you are licensed, you can then sell a policy, give advice, discuss coverages, sign applications, etc. Until you are licensed, even discussing coverages over the phone can be illegal, and if you give the client the wrong information, and a legal issue comes up about it, It can be disasterous. A receptionist can only give insurance info to banks/lenders, and tell a client the coverages they have, but not discuss what they cover. Hope this helps!
